- 4 years
- Quick prep
- At home
- About 5 minutes
Steps
- 1
Cleaning up toys is a small routine that happens every day. If your family is learning English, use this familiar moment for a little practice.
- 2
At first, pair each action with one simple English phrase. Say “pick up” as you pick up a toy and “put in” as you place it in the box.
- 3
Name familiar toys and features as you handle them: “car,” “truck,” “circle,” or “triangle.” You can also contrast a “small car” with a “big truck.”
- 4
As the words become familiar, model short, complete phrases such as “Pick up the car” and “Put it in the box.” Let your child respond with a word, a sound, or an action.
- 5
Once your child knows several words, try using mostly English during this short cleanup routine so the language stays connected to real actions.
