Steps

Set out a plate and several kinds of cut fruit. Look at the shapes and arrange a simple animal, such as a chick.
- 2
Show your child the beginning of the picture and ask what animal it might become.
- 3
When your child offers an idea, ask about one visible feature: “What could we use for the chick’s beak?”
- 4
If no idea comes yet, offer two choices: “Would blueberries or banana slices make better eyes?” You can also model one thought: “The blueberry looks like an eye. What could be the beak?”
- 5
Follow your child’s choice and invite them to place the fruit pieces.
- 6
Admire the finished picture and describe one creative detail: “You used a triangle of orange for the beak.” Then enjoy the fruit snack together.
