Find the Hidden Shape

   Shapes are hidden throughout the home. Use two search games to find them.

   First, have one adult name a shape while your child and another adult race to find a matching object. A ball or plate can match a circle, a hanger can suggest a triangle, and a tissue box can show rectangles.

   Once the shapes are familiar, look for several shapes within one complex object.

   A bicycle works well: the wheels are circles, the seat can look triangular, and the basket or pedals may include rectangles.

   Take turns saying, “I found a circle—the wheel. What shape did you find?” and see how many you can spot.

Tips

• If your child cannot name the shape, offer a clue: “How many corners does this part have?” or “Is it round or square?” Guide them to notice edges, corners, and curves.
